It’s an ice-cold day on the outskirts of town. Slowly, silently, a crowd starts forming among the birches of the snow-covered landscape. Accompanied only by the screeching of the crows, the people form a row along the horizon. They are gathered to witness an event. Nobody speaks. Everybody’s waiting for something to happen – but what?
NOTHING HAPPENS consists of two parts: An animation movie and a VR experience. As a movie, the piece is a visually powerful and thought-provoking encounter where the audience is watching and experience being watched. In the VR experience, the role of onlooker is questioned when the audience is invited to take part in the event. The audience is sucked into the unique and sensory world of animation – you no longer observe the piece, but exist inside it.
The award-winning couple Michelle and Uri Kranot break down preconceived notions about what animation is able to do. Moving between installation art, technology, and animation, their works involve and challenge the audience.
